345/365 quote Friday

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Soon the bells will start
And the thing that will make them ring
Is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart"
~ Meredith Wilson

338/365 quote Friday

"Time for the weather report. It's cold out folks. Bonecrushing cold. The kind of cold which will wrench the spirit out of a young man, or forge it into steel."
~Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider,
Northern Exposure, Lost and Found, 1992
another winter storm today
and the above picture is of my car
STUCK
in the snow
and I mean stuck as in
all the back and forth, back and forth, back and forth
was not going to help me
and you may be asking
oh my, where did this happen?
downtown, worse yet,
on deerfoot?
oh no,
after a 45 minute, hands at 10 and 2,
say a little prayer type of drive
I get stuck in...
my driveway.
How truly ironic
that I drove through some of the worse roads
I have seen in a long time
and I end up having to get dug
out of my own driveway.

I really need to figure out one of these days
why I live here in the winter.

331/365 quote Friday...

“A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water.”
~ Carl Reiner
at least someone in this family found
something good about the snow
a clean canvas for his art.
my opinion... no thanks I will pass
the first snowfall of winter and
a very long, icy drive home
I can live without it
and would like to live in a place
where this is not an option.

310/365 quote Friday

"I never saw an ugly thing in my life: for let the form of an object be what it may - light, shade, and perspective will always make it beautiful."

303/365 Quote Friday

Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint.
~ Mark Twain
I thought this was a humorous quote for what is an anxious time for many of us.

As I have been making sure Kaeden gets as much Vitamin C as possible, oranges have become his constant snack and I thought they made for a fresh looking picture.

I have always been a believer of not over cleaning, sterilizing, vaccinating and letting my body fight illness the way is designed too with extra doses of Vitamin C and a multi vitamin. This has worked well for me, other than a few colds, I have been fortunate to stay healthy. However, this H1N1 is scary, especially for Kaeden and my young nephews. I am starting to change my tune and after the high risk individuals have a chance to get the vaccination and the supply evens out, I think we will head in to get our shot. I am hoping that this pandemic is the "real" thing and that we will not have one for another 20-30 years as I really do not want to get into the habit of flu hysteria every winter.

Of lighting up what's dark
So shine, shine, shine for me baby
It only takes a spark"

282/365 quote friday

"everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it"
~ Confucius
I was checking out an apartment complex by my house this morning (for work, its a long story and really not that interesting so we will move on), as I pulled into the parking lot it struck me that there was an awfully large amount of ice on the roadway and the trees (grass, parking signs, walls - you name it, it was covered in ice). Now it has been cold but this was like something out of a movie. Of course, in my line of work my first thought should have been the liability exposure or the fact there could be a water main break but instead all I saw was the beauty and was so tempted to go back home to get my camera but instead I waited and went back tonight - I may try to go back in the morning as it would be interesting to see how it would look different in the sunlight.

I love this next picture, each blade of glass was individually coated in ice so it looked like a blanket of crystals.

~ Scott said this was caused by the sprinkler system going off combined with our blowing wind and frigid temperatures over the last few days.

261/365 Quote Friday and a little more Dr.Suess

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."
— Dr. Seuss, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!"
We are trying to advance from BLAH, BLAH, BLAH to actual reading. He is quite funny as he is such a speed reader in his "get er done" mode that he just whips through the pages and instead of slowing down to sound out the word, he'll just make up his own words which(sometimes) match the story and is highly entertaining but that skill may not get him through grade one so we will continue to work on it.
a Kaeden story

Scenario: walking home from the park (last Sunday) my mom, Keegan (almost 4 yrs old) and Kaeden and they are talking about school

Kaeden: (to Keegan) What grade are you in?

Keegan: Kindergarten (he is actually in preschool)

Kaeden: (in a very wistful voice) good times....good times

226/365 Quote Friday (August 14th)

“Like a man travelling in foggy weather, those at some distance before him on the road he sees wrapped up in the fog, as well as those behind him, and also the people in the fields on each side, but near him all appears clear, though in truth he is as much in the fog as any of them.”     ~Benjamin Franklin

219/365 quote Friday

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
~ Aaron Siskind
