bring on the Canadian pridetoday was our annual
Canada Day extravaganza
at the Feigs Settlement

which always includes lots of

friends, food and fireworks.

of course there are TON of photos to share but in the name
of trying to get caught up I have only posted the one picture
and will hopefully do a separate post another day.

hopefully the arrival of this

will make Kaeden forget all about

the trenches...

the arrival of our new trailer

which we have been waiting for 5 weeks to arrive

and I need to tell you,

I am VERY lucky as this

is way more luxurious then I thought

I would ever have out there and

we feel very fortunate to have a place so

beautiful to park it.

As a tenter for 30+ years

our current trailer was luxury to us

so to move to a 37 ft trailer that sleeps 10

(and it has sliding patio doors, I know, WTF)

is over the top for us.

This is the all I have to offer for pictures for now

as Nicole, Kaeden and I had to take off early today

to head to our nephew/cousin's birthday party

but as we were heading out, we saw the trailer

coming down the road so we did a quick u-turn

and went back but due to the open trenches

and construction it was a bit dicey putting it

on its temporary spot so I sadly will

have to wait until next weekend

to get settled and give you guys a photo tour.

as an insurance professional I am

not sure I should have been at the

land this weekend.

due to improvements being done

(electrical/water services)

the land is completely torn up

with 4 ft trenches

between the open holes and

exposed tree roots

it was one massive liability exposure

however,

instead of putting up warning signs

and fences

I sat back, basked in the sun &

allowed my 7 year old to

have the "bestest time EVER"

jumping the drenches all weekend

I was 100% positive there

would be a Fernie ER trip with

some one's body part impaled by a tree root

but I am happy to announce there were

zero injuries

and Kaeden is devastated that

the holes will be covered up by next week

as he really thought his friends

(he has lots of visitors his age coming

for the Canada day long weekend)

would LOVE playing hide and seek

and re-enacting world war 1 in the foxholes.

I think the parents will be very happy that we

should be back to relative flat land by Thursday.

173/365 4:00pm at the lake just got a little more exciting...

the newest addition to happy appy hour at the Feigs settlement...

Scott makes excellent blended yumminess

for us during our daily happy hour at the lake

usually after a great day at the beach

Up to now he has used a standard blender

and even though we would never turn away

a nice cold pina coloda, it was an exercise in

frustration to have your straw plugged with

huge chunks of ice.

However, with his Father's Day gift

our lumpy days are in the past

as this engineering masterpiece

SHAVES the ice,

yes you heard me

beautifully shaved ice

mixed with Scott's

secret combination of liquids

equals oh so good summer deliciousness

we OF COURSE had to test

it out to make sure it would be

suitable for our lake friends

because we are just caring like that

Our Thanksgiving Weekend in Pictures

all grandparents and people afraid of heights should not look at this next picture.

Our horn of plenty centerpiece, we all donated food in the spirit of the holiday. Unfortunately all I had to offer was an onion and peanuts!

my little jumping bean who would spend every moment on there if he could with his sister who was a good sport, even with Kaeden trying to push her off

oh the sadness of it all, the closing down for the season and Kaeden was quite beside himself. Here he is in the space where the trampoline used to be:

After this picture he went and sat in the car for the last of the clean up as he was just too "devastated to see his dreams being torn down" and it was just better to say his good bye's and then sit in the car so it was a quick pain "like ripping off a band-aid". He seriously sat in the car for 2 hours as it was just too sad to be on the land...no one can ever say he doesn't have the flair for the dramatic! It was sad though for our season out there to be over, we had such a wonderful summer but fortunately in my case, the 8 layers of clothes, frozen pipes and freezing winds softened the blow for me!

first camping trip of the year

and as mentioned this is our new seasonal residence

it was Scott's sister and brother in law's and 

we were really lucky to get the chance to buy it

and have it parked out at our favourite summer spot

the "Feigs Settlement" out in Baynes Lake

(30 minutes south west of Fernie)

he may be the happiest person about this

he loves it out there more than anyone I know

the "kitchen" 

it was really hard to get a good picture of the inside

because it is cozy

but compared to tenting for the last 17 years

it is pure luxury for us.and you can't beat the views that come with itand the best marshmallow roasting campfire around.

the helmet was bigger than his body and I thought he would fall over from the weight of it...but going on the quad with Uncle Pete is one of Kaeden's absolute "funnest"thing to do out at Baynes Lake.

Happy Canada Day

Day 3 of our road trip and we are celebrating it in Baynes Lake with the Feigs. We had an awesome firework display (put on by Phryo Pete and Scott) the night before and had a lazy day today at the camp site. 

We had a wicked storm that night and the "D"Shanty came in handy as we all took cover in there from the rain. It didn't bother the boys though - Kaeden "ran so super fast" between the rain drops he apparently didn't get wet at all.

Day 183/365+1 (June 30th)

Day Two of our road trip

we are at Baynes Lake at the Feigs Settlement

it was Beach day

I learnt a very valuable lesson involving the use of spray on sunscreen 

especially on a windy day

I have the craziest burn on my leg

one of the pictures needed for my road trip photo challenge is a turtle

Baynes Lake is the home to the famous and government protected painted turtles

you may remember last year I sent all summer trying to find one of these damn things

Ceille took me out on a trail that goes all around the beach and we found numerous turtles

I do not have a picture here as I am saving all of my road trip challenge ones until the end

but I did have a few others to share:

Because I am a princess...

and do not like (ok, this is an understatement-more like "am deeply terrified of)bees and or anything that flys and stings my brother in law and sister in law built a screened in room onto their trailer out at Baynes Lake this year.

of course it is not just for me but I inspired the project enough that they named it after me. The "D" shanty  and I tell you it worked like a charm - no need to be tent lady again this year!
